Rita Anderson Obituary

It is with deep regret that we wish to inform the community that Ms Rita Anderson OBE has passed away.

Rita was a founding member of the community council and served the areas of Chryston, Muirhead, Mount Ellen, Crowwood and Mollinsburn for over 40 years as secretary of the community council.

Rita gave her time and energy to many projects over those years such as the establishment of the beacon bus, raising funds from any source possible in order to provide a mini bus for the local community to get around, establishing a holiday caravan in Anstruther for those unable to afford holidays and provide the necessary transport to get them there and back. She was also responsible for the establishment of a charity shop in Chryston to raise funds for helping with all the costs of such projects.

In 1981 she was responsible for the creation of the local newsletter “The Beacon” which kept the communities up to date with projects , what was going on in the area and campaigning for improvements in all the villages.

Latterly Rita was also the treasurer for the community council and ran efficient systems not only for the shop but also “The Beacon”. Rita also played a large part in the organising of the Gala day for many years.

Rita was a tenacious worker for all the people and areas covered by the council and woe betide anyone who would in any way try to lessen the quality of life of those covered by the council!

If anyone wishes to attend her funeral it will take place at the Bishopbriggs crematorium on Monday 7th April at 2pm.
