March 2023

This month for Chryston there were 45 calls in total - ten of these were abandoned/false calls, five were for the M80 motorway. There were three calls for youths causing/setting fires - we will tie in with the local schools to try and curb this before it becomes a significant problem. From these calls there are no crime trends to make residents aware of and no wider concerns to the community. A lot of the calls were for road traffic issues in and around Cumbernauld Road.

From speaking with residents, speeding on Station Road, Muirhead, and the general volume of traffic in and around that area has been raised as an issue. Of course, there is not much we can do about the volume of traffic, however I have been at Station Road a couple of times recently and will continue to be there intermittently with the speed gun to act as a deterrent and hopefully educate some drivers.

There were 11 Crime Reports raised from the Chryston area, one of which has since been marked as "no-crime" following an investigation, making ten recorded crimes for the month in Chryston. One of the recorded crimes was a vandalism at Chryston United Free Church, where rocks have been thrown through the windows, smashing them. Again, from the crimes recorded, there are no crime trends to make residents aware of an no wider concerns to the community at this time.

February 2023

This past month for the Chryston area there were 79 calls to Police. Of these calls. five were for the motorway that falls under the Chryston area. A further five calls were for Intruder Alarms at Chryston High School/Cultural Centre. These are believed to have been generated from an alarm fault, which is hopefully fixed now. 22 of the calls were abandoned/duplicated or false calls to Police. Of note for the area, there were some calls for a housebreaking/suspect persons in the Belhaven Park and Haining Wynd area. One resident has had a shed broken in to and items stolen from within. As always, we would request that residents ensure everything is locked and secured and remain vigilant for themselves and their neighbours, contacting Police when appropriate and noting down any persons descriptions or vehicle registrations. Furthermore, any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage would be greatly appreciated to help further enquiries.

17 Crime Reports were raised over the same time period. Along with the aforementioned theft/suspect persons (which make up three of the Crime Reports) there has been four reported frauds. These include a Facebook scam where someone had completed a puzzle on a Facebook page and contacted the page advertising the post. The person was advised they had won a cash prize but had to send money first to receive the cash prize, which of course, never came. Another fraud was for someone ordering and paying for an iPad which never arrived. Another Chryston resident was the subject of a substantial fraud whereby she has been contacted by an unknown person pertaining to be from her bank. I would like to highlight these examples of fraud to try and inform Chryston residents of the types of scams that are prevalent, to try and reduce the impact that these have. Please make sure you know exactly who you are talking to or ordering from and be robust in your questioning. Anything banking related, if you are unsure, hang up the call and contact your bank directly, with official contact details from their website or on any documentation you know you have received from the bank. The best idea is to attend the bank in person.
